Winthrop Jordan is an associate in Hughes Hubbard’s Washington, D.C. office. He is a member of the firm’s Litigation Department, focusing primarily on defending antitrust and securities class actions.
He also is actively involved in the firm’s pro bono practice, assisting in the representation of indigent individuals in various criminal and habeas corpus proceedings.
Selected Matters
- Represented a group of Ukrainian gasoline companies who pushed back against Russia’s attempt to toss their claims in D.C. federal court, as part of a series of arbitrations over gas stations and other assets the Russian government seized after its 2014 invasion of Crimea.
Previous Experience
Prior to joining the firm, Winthrop was an Intern in the Opinions Section in the Office of the Virginia Attorney General. While in this position, he researched and helped draft official opinions of the Attorney General concerning a wide range of matters, including constitutional law, regulatory law, wills and trusts, taxation, and conflicts of interest. He also served as a Legal Fellow with the Richmond Public Defender, where he gained valuable experience in the courtroom. Additionally, while in law school, he worked as a research assistant for Professor Corinna Lain, assisting in her scholarship on capital punishment and constitutional law.

Law360 reported on a brief submitted by Hughes Hubbard in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, urging the Court to deny Russia’s motion to stay its mandate after the Court’s decision upholding the District Court’s jurisdiction over a suit to enforce an arbitral award on behalf of a group of 11 Ukrainian petrol companies, led by Stabil LLC, against the Russian Federation.
