Emma L. Baratta is counsel in Hughes Hubbard & Reed’s Intellectual Property practice group. She is a litigator who focuses on cases involving patents, trademarks and other aspects of intellectual property law. She was a member of HHR’s team on the TC Heartland case, which resulted in a Supreme Court victory that fundamentally altered the law of venue in patent cases for United States defendants. She has worked on bench and jury trial matters, regional circuit and Federal Circuit appeals, and arbitrations.
Before graduating from Harvard Law School, Emma was an intern in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, where she worked on matters in the General Crimes and Narcotics units of the Criminal Division. As an attorney, in addition to her intellectual property work, Emma has previously worked in white-collar criminal defense, with a focus on witness preparation and representing clients at proffer sessions and hearings. Her pro bono practice includes criminal defense matters as well as immigration proceedings before immigration judges, the Board of Immigration Appeals, and the Second Circuit.
