Anson's practice spans corporate restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, and private client services. Anson partners with clients to reach the best possible outcomes, prioritizing the achievement of strategic goals, while executing to success through granular attention to transaction details.
Restructuring. Anson represents lenders, debtors, and strategic investors at all stages of the restructuring process. Banks call on Anson to protect their interests in troubled investments, companies rely on Anson’s counsel to carry them through a successful restructuring, and major creditors seek Anson’s guidance to extract themselves from soured relationships.
M&A. Anson’s transactional experience focusses on distressed transactions, representing both buyers and sellers in bankruptcy auctions. Anson also advises companies in non-distressed transactions, including representation in de-SPAC transactions and otherwise, including capital markets offerings and SEC transaction approval.
Private Client Services. Anson is a trusted advisor to families and individuals navigating generational wealth distribution and preservation. Anson advises grantors on efficient estate planning and wealth transfer structures, bringing experience and compassion to the complexities of multi-beneficiary asset allocation. As a trustee on numerous trusts, Anson is a steward to individuals and families seeking responsible and fair administration of trust assets. He also provides counsel to individual and corporate Trustees and Executors in carrying out their fiduciary responsibilities, including litigated matters.

- Gemini Trust Company, LLC. Represented Gemini in connection with the bankruptcy of Genesis Global Capital, ultimately helping Gemini achieve a $2.2 billion distribution of assets to its users, representing a 232% recovery event overall.
- Isos Acquisition Corp. Represented Isos in connection with its de-SPAC transaction with Bowlero, the nation’s largest bowling center operator, one of the most successful de-SPACs.
- Starboard Value Acquisition Corp. Represented activist investor as SPAC-sponsor Starboard Value, in SVAC’s $404 million initial public offering and $3.4 billion merger with Cyxtera Technologies Inc. that took the data center provider public.
- Hermitage Offshore. Represented DNB Bank ASA and Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken (SEB) as secured lenders, chapter 11 lenders, and eventual purchasers of the debtors’ assets, including in connection with the lenders’ subsequent resale of the assets.
- GFG Alliance. Represented GFG Alliance-owned Liberty Steel in its acquisition of a steel mill from bankrupt Bayou Steel, outmaneuvering a higher dollar value credit bid.
- GulfMark Offshore, Inc. Represented secured lender DNB with respect to creditor rights and provision of debtor-in-possession financing. Represented DNB and Hayfin Capital Management in connection with the arrangement and provision of exit financing.
- Represented debtors CST Corporation and Patriot National, Inc in obtaining debtor-in-possession financing and with respect to cash management and ongoing business operations.
- Emerald Oil LLC. Represented Dakota Midstream LLC as the purchaser of assets through a bankruptcy auction.
- Valaris Offshore. Served as DNB’ special counsel in connection with its role as a member of the statutory creditors committee and lender to the debtor.
- Altera Infrastructure. Advised DNB as a member of lending syndicate in connection with global restructuring of Altera Infrastructure.
- Toys “R” Us, Inc. Represented Hain Celestial Group, Inc. in connection with its vendor claim.
- Lehman Brothers Inc. (LBI) Represented the Trustee in the $123 billion liquidation of Lehman Brothers Inc., the largest bankruptcy in history. Secured a 100% recovery for customers, secured and priority claimants. Resolved myriad disputes, including the resolution of thousands of customer and creditor claims and the status of various financial instruments in SIPA liquidations. Designed the transition to a liquidating trust to maximize long term creditor value.
- MF Global Inc. (MFGI) Represented the Trustee in the $40 billion liquidation of MF Global Inc. Secured a 100% recovery for customers and secured creditors, and a 95% recovery for unsecured creditors.
- Hundreds of Thousands Served. Over the course of his career, Anson has been on or led teams responsible for the distribution of over $133 billion in value to over 378,000 customers and creditors.

Lehman Team to Distribute Final Payout of $269M to Unsecured Creditors; Offer Enhanced Recovery Option to Substantially All Unsecured Creditors
Hughes Hubbard’s Lehman team has received court approval to make an eighth and final incremental distribution to general unsecured creditors (GUCs) of the failed brokerage firm, bringing their total recovery to approximately 41.25 percent of what is owed. The team also received approval of a voluntary supplemental distribution available to substantially all of LBI’s GUCs.
