Jim Kobak Appointed to NYCLA Task Force Focused on Expanding Access to Justice

Jim Kobak, senior ethics counsel and former president of the New York County Lawyers Association (NYCLA), has been appointed to NYCLA's newly formed Technology and Community Justice Task Force.

The task force will explore ways to expand access to justice by utilizing trained non-lawyer legal services providers and technology-driven solutions. The group will examine the roles of navigators, paralegals, community advocates, licensed legal technicians and other justice workers in helping meet the growing demand for affordable legal services.

The task force plans to develop a formal charter, draft model legislation, create technology tools and pilot programs, and organize educational programming to support its mission.

Kobak has long been a leader in the legal profession and access-to-justice initiatives. In addition to serving as a former NYCLA president, he is chair of the National Center for Access to Justice, and has written and lectured extensively on legal ethics, professional responsibility and access-to-justice issues.
